FROM YESTERYEAR'S ORGANICS,
TO THE FUTURE OF THE GREEN MOVEMENT !

Staff is SO excited to bring you a Natural Foods Market
like Santa Cruz has never seen!

Santa Cruz is one of the epicenters of the natural foods movement. Born from the 60's in Santa Cruz, Staff of Life has always been right in the heart of it, bringing you local products and healthy foods since before these terms became fashionable.

Staff is a true pioneer in the movement towards buying organic produce from our local farmers, like Alan Chadwick from UCSC, Camp Joy, and other community farms. And together with groups like CCOF we formed the beginning of what is now known as the Natural & Organic Food Movement.

In this spirit we bring you the next progression in the movement.  A locally owned and managed Natural Foods Market, in a newly converted Green building with plenty of parking. Gardens at the entryway, leading you to a covered Outdoor Market with fresh Produce, Flowers, Cafe del Sol offering espresso, juice and smoothies, and a community seating area to enjoy it all. Inside the store you will find all the choices you want from a

Full Service Market with Healthy Choices at Great Prices !

Because that is what we've always been about.

Plenty of Parking ( Cars AND Bikes AND Carpools AND . . . )

Plenty of Parking ( Cars AND Bikes AND Carpools AND . . . )

One of the more exciting features of the building . . .
We will now have over 110 parking spaces!
( Our current location has 26, not including the street.)

There will be a few spots with eventual charging stations for electric cars.  We will also offer preferred parking to Low Emission Vehicles, carpools, and the handicapped.

The new Staff will have increased bike parking for our customers, including covered parking spaces, an air and water station, and a bike community bulletin board.   There is a pedestrian entrance off of Soquel that does not intersect with vehicles, for safer entry to the store.

For our employees there will be a locked bike room.  We have partnered with Ecology Action and their Sustainable Transportation Program to offer more incentives for our Staff to get here sustainably. And we even installed a shower.

So, no matter how you want to get here, it should be a bit easier now!

Light Harvesting

Light Harvesting

The Einstein Energy Management System is designed to cut our energy use considerably. It includes a Light Harvesting feature which will dim the lights based on how much sunlight is coming in through the many sky lights installed throughout the building.

In our current location we have 27 compressors running our refrigeration. At the new location all of the coolers and freezers will be sharing 6 variable speed compressor system.  This means we conserve energy and we save on our PG&E and bill, which allows us to keep our prices low. And the system utilizes Heat Reclamation from the condensers to preheat the hot water for the building!

Clean Air Regeneration

Clean Air Regeneration

There are over 25 Destratification Fans throughout the building as part of an air purification system.  These will regenerate the air in the store, and circulate warm air from above with cool air from below, multiple times an hour.

That means there will always be fresh, clean air, free from odors, germs, dust, or just plain old staleness.

That means a healthier environment for our shoppers and our Staff.
And the temperature should be consistently comfortable.

Clean Water, In and Out

Clean Water, In and Out

Located at the edges of the parking lot, the Bio Swales filter almost all of the run off water from the site through a series of plants and soil that will purify it before going back to the ground and eventually the bay.
