04.13.10 WE'RE MOVIN' ON UP!
Staff of Life began as a natural foods bakery in 1969. In 1971 we moved to our current location. This spot has served us well for the past 39 years, as we have grew into a full fledged natural foods grocery store. We purchased the Soquel Avenue location last year. This new location will allow us to provide a level of products and service to our customers of which we heretofore could only dream. Our new parking lot with over 100 ample spaces will be a major step forward, as anyone who has ever “gone to battle” in our current lot can attest. Having everything in one much larger building will allow us to be more efficient as a business, provide a higher level of service, and continue to offer the lowest prices. We will be introducing a “Farmers Market” under a very sophisticated awning before entering the store proper. It will also include a juice, chai, coffee, and pastry bar with plenty of seating where one can relax and enjoy those items, or deli products purchased in the store. As far as we know, this is a first in the industry, and we are really excited to present it. Staff of Life is honored to be among the first Santa Cruz markets to be awarded the city's Green Building Award. Some of the green features include: wiring for eventual electric car charging, waste composting, bio-swales to recharge the ground water and purify water run-off before it heads to the Monterey Bay, energy efficient variable speed refrigeration motors and compressors which can have an energy savings of up to 30%, skylights with a light harvesting system that shuts down unneeded lights automatically, a computerized energy management system, a bicycle area with air and water fountains, and a much upgraded, better located community bulletin board. We will be updating through our website and in the store during the building process to keep the community informed of our progress.
